Calgary’s Confidence, Learning, Mentorship & Parent Night Out Programs for Kids

Building Confidence, Skills and Independence is at the Heart of Polaris

Schools help children learn what to know. Polaris Youth Lab helps them discover who they are and what they’re capable of.

Through small group Confidence Labs, educator-led Learning Labs and personalized mentorship, young people build confidence, strengthen practical skills and become more independent.

Our approach is strengths-based and relationship-centred because children thrive when they feel understood, supported and capable—not simply when they achieve the right answer.

MENTOR ENGAGING STUDENTS

To help young people build confidence, strengthen practical and academic skills, while becoming more independent through engaging, strengths-based learning experiences and supportive relationships.

Mission

A young boy with curly brown hair and a black shirt is smiling broadly with his eyes closed, showing his teeth. He is sitting at a wooden dining chair and pointing towards the camera with his finger. In the background, there is a blurred bookshelf with colorful books, and part of another person's hand holding a phone is visible at the bottom of the image.

A future where young people are not square pegs being forced into a circle hole. Every young person has different strengths and interests. Polaris is here to help kids believe in their abilities and develop the confidence and skills to navigate school, relationships and life.

Vision

A close-up view of a yellow sign with black text that reads 'Love to Learn' attached to a white concrete wall. The background includes a person walking and a landscaped area with white gravel, green plants, and trees, during sunset.

Strengths before Weaknesses. We begin with what each young person can do well. Their strengths become the foundation for building skills, addressing challenges and moving forward.

Confidence is the output. Not the input. We don’t just tell young people to believe in themselves. We give them opportunities to try, practice, solve problems and see their own progress. That’s how real confidence is built.

Interests Matter. Young people are more engaged when learning connects to what matters to them. We use their interests as a starting point for building practical, academic and personal skills they can use beyond the Lab.

Relationships Come First. Young people learn and grow best when they feel safe, understood and genuinely included. Trust is not an extra, it is the foundation of everything we do.

Perfection Sucks. Mistakes, challenges and uncertainty are part of learning. We value effort, reflection and meaningful progress over getting everything right.

We give them the telescope. They find the stars. Support should give young people the tools, guidance and encouragement they need without taking over the journey. Growth happens when they have the space to try, make decisions, solve problems and discover what they’re capable of.
